This is a basic doula training for women wishing to become birth doulas. You do not need to be a nurse, a mother or have a medical background. This is the first major step in the certification process with DONA International.
The only prerequisite is that you have a basic understanding of childbirth and the physiology of how birth works. Many women obtain this through reading from the DONA reading list or from attending a childbirth class. (Many childbirth educators in the area will allow you to attend their classes for the purposes of training. Call or email individual educators for more information). Please note: in addition to the registration fee, DONA also required that all trainees own a copy of The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin.
To reserve your spot for the training, you must complete the following steps (steps 1 & 2 are mandatory; step 3 is optional):
- IF you plan to take advantage of the member discount for this training and are not already a BCN member, you must join and pay your annual dues online. Visit our membership page to learn about the benefits of membership.
- Complete the online reservation form.
A refund of training fees, or credit for a future training, will need to be discussed with Vicki Sanders.
There are a limited number of scholarships available for this training. For requirements and application guidelines, visit our scholarship page.
