Philosophy:

The addition of a child into the family is a precious event!  I believe it is important for every mother to have proper physical and emotional care at home, following childbirth or adoption.  Some families and friends provide this type of care, while other families are separated by work location or time schedules.  As a postpartum doula, I work beside the family to foster confidence and provide comfort, while the family welcomes and adjusts to its new addition(s).  Support may vary for each family, as families have diverse needs for recovery, adjustment, and knowledge.  As each family member takes on a new role when the baby comes to the home, I am there to try to help ease the transitions.  Options for postpartum doula care may be the following: care for mother’s physical recovery, assistance with newborn care, breastfeeding support, meal and snack preparation, laundry, errands, light housekeeping, and assistance with siblings.  I believe early support helps families cope with fatigue, normal emotional adjustments caused by the dependence of a newborn, and the natural change in the family dynamic.
